The Lady Eagles softball team faced off against Fort Wayne Heritage and lost 5-1.
Heritage was able to get two runs scored in the first, one in the third, and two more in the fourth while Churubusco only scored once in the third.
The Lady Eagles were lead by Freshman Brooke Herendeen. Herendeen went one for three with one RBI. Also going one for three for the day was Kasey Gibson, Chandler Blake, and Gabby Jones.
Starting on the mound for the Lady Eagles was Mariah Herendeen. She went three innings with six hits, two earned runs, one walk and one home run with two strikeouts. Next on the mound was Lacey Pulley who went four innings with six hits and one earned run with one strikeout.
The Lady Eagles then faced the Angola Hornets. Churubusco took Angola to nine innings but lost 6-5.
Churubusco allowed Angola to score a run in the first, but the Lady Eagles rallied and scored four. Both teams scored one in the second and none in the third. In the fourth inning, Angola was able to get one more run across to make it 5-3 Churubusco. Both teams were scoreless in the fifth, but Angola was able to tie it up with two runs in the sixth while they kept the Lady Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams were scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings, but the Hornets were able to get one run across home plate in the top of the ninth. Angola was able to keep the Lady Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 6-5.
Offensively, Lacey Pulley and Kasey Gibson led the team. Both girls went two for four with one RBI. Chandler Blake went one for three with two RBI’s and Brooke Herendeen went two for five with one RBI.
Battling on the mound for the Lady Eagles was Mariah Herendeen. She went nine innings with nine hits, six earned runs, three walks, and one home run with one strikeout.
The softball All-NECC nominations are in for 2012 and Kasey Gibson and Chandler Blake made the All-NECC team while Savannah Labenz and Mariah Herendeen made honorable mention.
