The Churubusco boys’ basketball team traveled to Hamilton Thursday night to face the Marines. Churubusco won the battle getting a dominating 62-25 win.
“I thought defensively we did pretty well,” said Coach Michael McBride.
Churubusco went on a 23-0 run getting baskets from Josh LeFever, Dylan Jones, Tyler Arrowsmith, Chris Jones, and Austin Goepfrich. The Eagles also received free throws from LeFever, Goepfrich, and Arrowsmith. Hamilton did not score until the 2:06 mark in the second quarter with a basket. Dylan Jones answered with a lay –up. The Marines made another basket and so did Goepfrich for the Eagles. Hamilton ended the second quarter making a basket. The score at half was 27-6 Churubusco.
“We had good all-around play in the first half,” stated Coach McBride. “We took a lot of good shots and had a great night from the free-throw line.”
The Marines scored right away in the third quarter. LeFever and Arrowsmith both made two-pointers for Churubusco. Hamilton made one more basket before the Eagles went on a 14-0 run. The Eagles received baskets from Chris Jones, LeFever, Goepfrich, and Arrowsmith. Hamilton went on a 4-0 run until Chris Jones made a basket as the horn sounded to end the third quarter.
“I was really impressed with our third quarter,” explained Coach McBride. “Arrowsmith came out much more assertive in the third quarter.”
Hamilton scored first in the fourth quarter. Goepfrich answered for the Eagles with a three-pointer. Hamilton scored again, but Churubusco went on a 5-0 run receiving baskets from Goepfrich, Arrowsmith, and a free throw from LeFever. Hamilton made two, two-pointers but Churubusco answered with a 5-0 run with free throws from LeFever, Corey Sarrazin, and Brent Simmons. Hamilton made a free throw, but Churubusco’s Blake Gross drained two free throws to end the game 62-25 Churubusco.
“I thought we had a really good night from everyone,” said Coach McBride.
The Eagles are back in action Friday night at home against Fairfield and Saturday at Whitko. Friday’s game is the black- out game so please come out and support your Eagles and wear your black!
