Churubusco Baseball Coach Mark Grove has announced this year’s jersey auction. It will take place before the Central Noble-Churubusco basketball game on Friday, January 27th. The chili supper is from 5 to 7 p.m. in the High School cafeteria. The menu includes chili, hot dogs, apple crisp, bread and butter and a drink. Chili is all-you-can-eat so bring your appetite and bring some cash for the auction. All proceeds will go to the Churubusco Eagle baseball team.
This year’s jerseys are the third set of pinstripes worn by the Eagles but the first set of sleeveless jerseys. The uniforms were worn from 2005-2008, the Eagles were NECC co-champs and Sectional champs in 2006 and in 2007 they were Regional champs.
Jerseys for sale are (Number/Size) #3 / 44, #4 / 44, #5 / 42, #9 / 42, #10 / 46, #12 / 44, #14 / 46, #15 / 46, #16 / 48, #17 / 44, #18 / 44, #19 / 44, #20 / 48, #22 / 48, #23 / 48, #24 / 48, #25 / 44, #26 / 46 and #33 / 46.
Adding a new twist to this year’s auction Coach Grove has added some other memorabilia to the auction. Former major league baseball player and Churubusco standout Brent Gaff has donated an autographed baseball and baseball cards from his playing days with the New York Mets. Gaff also has donated two Gaffight ice fishing poles. One is a Green Bay Packer theme and the other is Black and Gold. There also will be an autographed baseball signed by Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge.
The auction begins at 5:30 p.m. so get there early to eat and bid on your favorite items. Justin Gaerte, a former Eagle baseball player and a 1997 graduate will be the auctioneer for the event.
