Tuesday the Churubusco boys’ basketball team traveled down State Road 205 to face the Columbia City Eagles. Columbia City won 52-43, in a hard fought contest. Tyler Arrowsmith led the Eagles with 18 points and Josh LeFever had 14 points.
On Saturday night, the Eagles hosted the West Noble Chargers. The Eagles were victorious with a 57-29 win. The Eagles started with a missed bucket and two missed free throws as West Noble got off to a 4-0 early lead. Busco would finally get a basket at 3:51 by LeFever. He then got fouled and went 1-2 from the line to make it 4-3 West Noble. Tyler Arrowsmith then put two points on the scoreboard for the Eagles but the Chargers would answer back with a three-pointer giving the lead back to West Noble 7-5. Busco then called a time out and ran a play for Austin Goepfrich who hit a three-pointer to make it 8-7 Eagles to end the first quarter.
Busco started the second quarter strong with a 9-0 run. The Chargers didn’t score until 3:17 left to play in the half. West Noble would hit two buckets in a row to make it 17-11 Eagles. Busco’s Goepfrich then took control for the Eagles. He made a bucket, went 2-2 from the line, and went 1-2 from the line to give the Eagles five more points. Chris Jones would get two points for the Eagles giving them a 7-0 run and a 24-11 lead at halftime.
The Eagles started the third quarter with a three-point play from Arrowsmith with a bucket and a free throw. The Chargers finally got on the board after not scoring since 3:15 left in the second half. Arrowsmith would go to the line for the Eagles and make one out of two. The teams would exchange baskets until :03 left to go in the third quarter. Arrowsmith would end the quarter as he started it, hitting a two pointer and one from the line to make it 37-20 Churubusco.
The fourth quarter began with a 14-0 run by the Eagles. The Chargers would make a three-pointer and a make a bucket and put the Eagles on the line for the rest of the game. C. Jones made two free throws and Beau Barkley made two more before the Chargers would make a bucket. Next Blake Gross went 1-2 from line and West Noble would make their last bucket of the night. Brent Simmons would end the scoring for the Eagles going 1-2 from the line to end the game 57-29 Busco.
The boy’s basketball team is back in action Friday night at Prairie Heights.
