The Lady Eagles traveled to Ligonier Friday night to face the West Noble Chargers and were dazed in a 57-20 loss to them.
The first quarter was a rough start for the Lady Eagles. West Noble went on a 9-0 run until Busco’s Heather Monk made a two-point bucket at 3:06 for the Lady Eagles. Both teams battled back and forth, the Chargers made two free throws to end the first quarter 11-2 West Noble. “ They came out with a full court press like we knew they would and we didn’t handle it very well,” said Coach Jamie Perlich. “We had some turnovers from people not getting back and it didn’t help that West Noble started out hot.”
In the second quarter, Busco’s Savannah Labenz was the first to score with a free throw at 7:40. West Noble then went on a 7-0 run until Busco’s Kristine Bechtold was fouled and made one from the free- throw line. West Noble would get the rebound on the missed free throw and make a three-pointer. At 3:56 to go in the half, Busco’s Chandler Blake was fouled and made both free throws to give Busco two more points in the quarter. Blake would again get fouled and made one of two from the stripe. West Noble would get two more buckets to end the first half 25-7 Chargers. “Our girls were down on themselves tonight and that’s something that we can not do,” stated Coach Perlich. “They were upset with the way they were playing and that led to missed shots, turnovers, and missed free throws.”
The Lady Eagles were first to score in the third quarter with a lay-up bucket from Monk assisted by Lacey Pulley. West Noble would answer back with a 9-0 run until Busco’s Blake went 1-2 from the free- throw line. West Noble would go down the floor and get two more points. The Lady Eagles and West Noble would then exchange fouls until Labenz would make a little four foot jumper to give the Lady Eagles two more points. West Noble would answer big with two three pointers back-to-back to-extend their lead to 42-12. “The girls’ confidence wasn’t there tonight, but I still have confidence in them,” said Coach Perlich. “I think not having Haleigh Gross on the floor was part of our frustration tonight.”
West Noble would hit a three pointer to open up the fourth quarter and go on a 13-0 run until Busco’s Chayenne McRoberts hit a two pointer from the top of the key. Busco would then foul the Chargers and they made both from the line. West Noble would foul McRoberts at 2:10 and 1:00 left in the game and McRoberts made all four of the free throws. West Noble then turned the ball over and Busco would miss a bucket to end the game 57-20. “At the end, we wanted to give some of the JV girls a chance to play,” explained Coach Perlich. “I thought they played hard and did some good things.”
