The CMS Lady Eagles went in to the LLC conference track meet unbeaten.  On paper there was no way they should lose.  But did they have what it would take to bring home a conference title?
The night brought many surprises as each individual continued to break personal records and pass up the points and finishes put on paper. The pole vault was the event that had the coaches a little worried.

Last Tuesday the Lady Eagles hosted the NECC tournament winner Angola Hornets. The Lady Eagles led most of the game, but were unable to hold on and lost it in the end 5-4. Offensively, Senior Jess Tartaglia had a great game at the plate. Tartaglia went three for three with two doubles and three RBI’s. Freshman Kasey Gibson also helped at the plate going two for four with one double.

It was a night where the Eagles were defending their reign as Conference Champions. But Fairfield was too strong as they took back the crown with a 146 point performance. Churubusco placed second with 112.5 points followed by Westview with 85,West Noble 78 and Lakeland with 65.5 to round out the top five.
Churubusco senior Brian Trump left nothing in reserve as he gave all he had to win the 100 meter dash (11.80), 200 meter dash (22.96). He also anchored the 4 x 100 relay team of Kyle Mathewson, Kyle Monk and Jordan Hamilton that set a school record with a time of 44.09 seconds. Mathewson recorded a second in the 200 meter dash (23.24), long jump (20’ 6.5”) and third in the 100 meter dash (11.98).
Monk placed second (41.33) in the 300 hurdles and Josh LeFever was third (41.67). Monk also placed fourth (5’ 10”) in the high jump and Jes Percy’s jump of 5’ 8” was good for eighth place. LeFever also placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.30) and sixth in the discus (123’ 6”). Hamilton placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.46) and Alex Zolman finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 20’ 0”. In the shot put Spencer Conrad placed fourth with a throw of 46’ 4.25” and Skylar Greve was seventh with 45’ 3.5”. Pole vaulters Zach Adams and Zack Armstead placed fifth and sixth with jumps of 11’ 6”. Jeremy Forker ran an outstanding race and finished sixth with a time of 52.94 seconds.
Westview took the girls Championship with a 137 to 132 win over Fairfield. Angola placed third with 76 points, Central Noble was fourth with 68 and West Noble finished fifth with 64 points. The Lady Eagles place sixth with 43.5 points.
Heather Monk collected the only first place finish for Churubusco with her throw of 114’ 2” in the discus. She finished second in the shot put with a throw of 37’ 2.5”. Erica Lehner was sixth in the shot with 30’ 7.5”. Peyton Summers finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.34 seconds. She also finished eighth in the 200 meter dash (29.06) and in the long jump 14’ 1”. Alex Eyer placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:44.03 and eighth with a time of 5:46.7 in the 1600 meter run. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Haleigh Gross, Summers, Lehner and Monk finished fifth with a time of 54.02.

The Churubusco Eagles won 16-1 on Thursday at Westview and then dropped a pair 6-4, 7-4 to the visiting Adams Central team this past Saturday.

Every player for the Eagles recorded a hit and a run during the game against the Warriors. Justin Norris had the hot bat going three for five, scoring four runs and driving in three runs. Braxton Siddons, Jordan Turner, Ryan Farlow and Dylan Herendeen all hit homers for the Eagles.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Prairie Heights Wednesday night to face the Panthers. The Lady Eagles were victorious with a 3-1 win. Leading the Eagles’ win were two freshmen, Kasey Gibson and Chandler Blake. Gibson went three for four with one double and four stolen bases. Blake went one for three with one RBI.
Mariah Herendeen picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles where she went six innings with six hits, one run (earned), three walks, and one strikeout. Brianne Burkhart pitched one inning giving up one walk.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles were at Westview against the Lady Warriors. The Lady Eagles were victorious  by a score of 10-3. Leading the Lady Eagles in batting were, Gibson, Kelary Crabill, and Taylor Amber. Gibson went four for five with seven stolen bases. Crabill went two for four with two doubles and one RBI and Amber went three for five with two RBI’s. Herendeen went seven innings with eleven hits, three runs (two earned), and one walk.
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Warsaw for the Warsaw Invite. They faced the host team Warsaw in the first game. Churubusco lost in a tough game 1-0. Offensively, Savannah Labenz and Gibson did well for the Eagles. Labenz went two for four with one double and Gibson went three for four.
Herendeen suffered the loss for the Eagles even though she gave her best performance for the year. She went seven innings giving up four hits, three walks, and no earned runs.
The Lady Eagles defeated Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran 4-3 in the second game. Crabill went one for two with a double. Ashlie Shelton went one for two with a double and two RBI’s. Nichole Sells went one for three with one RBI and Blake went one for two with one RBI.
Herendeen got the win for the Lady Eagles, her third win for the week. She went seven innings with ten hits, three runs (one earned) and two walks.
The Lady Eagles travel to Heritage Wednesday, host Central Noble Thursday and will host New Haven on Saturday. The Sectionals start on Monday at Eastside. The Lady Eagles drew a bye and will play on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. with the Cham-pionship game to follow on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
