COLUMBIA CITY -- Mary E. Grant, age 90, of Columbia City, IN passed away peacefully with her loving family near her on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. Born April 23, 1921 in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Ann (Bush) Sheets.
Raised in Columbia City, she resided in Larwill, Blue Lake, Smith Township, South Whitley; and Indianapolis, with son, Barry Graves, before returning to Columbia City. She was educated in the Coesse public schools. She married Arthur L. Grant. She worked for nine years as a welder at Ion Capicitor; as a beautician at the LaCharm Beauty Shop; and for ten years as a seamstress at Blue Bell.
Survivors include her sons, Barry A. Graves of Indianapolis and Murray “Mike” (Candy) Graves of Claypool; stepdaughter, Lucratia Ruckman of South Whitley; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lee; sisters, Hattie Bridigan, Louella Richey, Hazel Treech, Effa Watson and Rose Hartman; brothers, John Wesley and William Buck Sheets.
Memorial service is Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with Pastor Steve Briggs officiating. Burial at South Whitley Cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Grant to the donor's choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
