GARRETT -- William A. Speakman, Sr., 84, went to meet his Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Garrett.
Born in Decatur, he was a U.S. Navy (Seabees) World War II veteran and the owner of Speakman & Sons Construction and G&S Home Improvement for 51 years, retiring in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Greta H. Speakman of Garrett; daughters, Deborah (Robert) Aikins of Garrett, Kathy (Gary) Carr of Kendallville and Mary H. (Brad) Smith of LaOtto; sons, William A. (Dinah Lynn) Speakman Jr. of Kendallville and Dan D. Speakman of Churubusco; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwight “Bud” (Corkie) Speakman and James Speakman of Fort Wayne; and sisters, Mary “Pat” Nine of Fort Wayne and Jean Goldner of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolla and Mary Speakman; son, Jimmy Speakman; granddaughter, Talia Joy Smith; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo Speakman; and sisters, Della, Goldie, Mable and Tilly.
Service is 2 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012, at D. O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
