CHURUBUSCO -- Elsie Jean Shady, 82, fell asleep in death this past Thursday, January 19, 2012.
Born in Fort Wayne, December 3, 1929, Elsie dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Elkhart River in 1954. Over the years, she attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Canton, Texas, and here in Fort Wayne at the Sandpoint and North Congregations, and in earlier years at the Kingdom Hall in Columbia City, Indiana. During her working years, Elsie was employed at the Magic Wand in Churubusco and as a cook at the Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne until her retirement in 1993. Elsie enjoyed spending time with her family, going to garage sales, and bringing countless smiles to everyone.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Shady of Albion, Kathleen Shady of Van, TX, Gregory (Tita) Shady of Columbia City, Lisa (David) Wright of Ft. Wayne, and Lenny (Dawn) Shady of Churubusco; sisters, Margaret Johnson, Ruthie McCombs, Annie (George) Stone and Alice (John) Stone, all of Fort Wayne; long time husband and friend, Bernard Shady of Churubusco; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna Ramsey; brothers, Earl, Richard and Rusty Ramsey; sisters, Hilda Mae Ramsey, Edna Stewart, Dollie Graft and Mildred Harris.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday, Jan 27, 2012 at D.O. McComb and Sons, Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. DuPont Road with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Cody Smith will officiate.
