FORT WAYNE -- Gertrude M. Kerns, 92, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011, at University Park Nursing Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Detroit, Mich., she was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed all the activities at University Park Nursing Home, especially bingo. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Surviving are sons, Jacob Michael (Carolyn) Kerns of Zanesville and Lawrence (Sharon) Kerns of Fort Wayne; daughters, Rita (Rex) Roy of Fort Wayne and Theresa (Mick) Griffin of Bryan, Ohio; brother, Raymond Sanders of Fort Wayne; sister, Joan Ulrey of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and step-brother, Walt (Barb) Herendeen of Churubusco. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob F. Kerns in 1990; son, Steve Kerns; daughter, Ruth Bright; and three siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at St. Jude Catholic Church with calling one hour prior at the church. Fr. Robert D’Souza officiated. Calling also from 4-8 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue.

Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
