Roy Alan Johnson, 57, of Kendallville, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, with his family at his side. He had been ill for one week.
Mr. Johnson had lived in Kendallville for seven years, coming from Butler. He worked at Quik Tanks in Kendallville.
He was a volunteer pack leader for Cub Scout Troop 3157 in Kendallville, and attended Bridgeway Evangelical Church in Kendallville. He enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors, and loved to read.
He was born November 29, 1952, in Warsaw to Billy and Sandra (McPherson) Johnson.
Surviving are his mother, Sandra Johnson of Syracuse; a daughter, Amanda Johnson of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Heather Johnson of Warsaw; six grandchildren, Teryn Allen, Kristen Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Caleb Hecke, Sarah Johnson, and Samuel Johnson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kellie and Glenn Laughlin of New Paris and Jan Monnier of Warsaw; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Terrie Johnson of Churubusco; and his significant other, Cindy Johnson of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Johnson, and a niece, Nicole Johnson.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 3, 2010, at 5 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Jeff Wolheter of Bridgeway Evangelical Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Bridgeway Evangelical Church or Cub Scout Troop 3157.

BLOOMINGTON -- James W. Crowe, 75, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Bloomington.
James was born on June 27, 1934, in Huntertown, to Arthur and Ruth (Decker) Crowe. On November 27, 1954 he married Barbara J. Jones. James and Barbara were both graduates of Churubusco High School with the Class of 1952. He spent most of his work life as a Professor of Health Education at Indiana University.
James is survived by his wife, Barbara Jones Crowe, Bloomington; a son, Michael (Beth) Crowe and a daughter, Monica Black, both of Bloomington; five grandchildren; a brother, Paul, in Maryland; a sister, Nancy, in Tennessee; and two brothers-in-law, Chuck (Barbara) Jones, Columbia City and Dave (Sharon) Jones, Churubusco.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eric Crowe.
Services were on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Bloomington. Interment was at the Eel River Cemetery on April 26.

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- Evelyn Young, 92, a former resident of Albion and more recently a resident of Crawfordsville, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the St. Clare Medical Center in Crawfordsville following an illness of two weeks.
Mrs. Young was born in Albion on February 21, 1918, a daughter of Rollin and Orpha (Lindsey) McGuire. She spent her formative years in that community and graduated from Albion High School in 1938.
On June 30, 1943 she was married in Wolf Lake to H. James Young. Together, the couple owned and operated Jim's Hardware in Albion for 25 years, retiring in 1986. The couple lived all of their married lives in Albion until moving to Crawfordsville six years ago to be near their daughter.
Mr. Young preceded her in death on January 3, 2004.
She was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Albion. In addition to her love for her family, she enjoyed baking, crocheting, and knitting for other people.
The surviving relatives include her daughters, Charlotte Boyd of Brandon, Miss., Louise (Jerry) Davis of Frankfort, and Karen (Stephen) Selby of New Market; a brother, Carl (Pauline) McGuire of Churubusco, and a sister, Marcelle (Lee) Mahnesmith of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at the Berean Baptist Church in Albion with Pastor Doug Keenan, officiating.
At the request of the family, calling hours will be private.
Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.

FORT WAYNE -- Katherine “Kate” Moery Cour, of Fort Wayne, was called home on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at home under the care of her grandchildren, Amanda Chevalier, Jackie Cour and Mike Richey.
Born July 4, 1935, in Fort Wayne, she was a life long resident. She worked many years at General Color Graphics and also was employed by Glenco. She attended North Side High School.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Arthur) Chevalier of LaOtto and Teresa (Louie) Elkins of Fort Wayne; two sons, Brian (Deb) Cour of New Haven and Robert (D’Ann) Cour of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, Amy (Jeremy) Nichols, Amanda Chevalier, Lisa (Brad) Daler, Jackie Cour, Arthur Chevalier, Jessica Cour, Matt Cour, Mike Richey, and Jennie Durand; two step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sharon Byer and Nancy France. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Cour and sister, Shirley M. Cour.
Memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at C. M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells Street, with calling one hour prior.

CHURUBUSCO -- Karen Salesman Rapp, 57, a native of Churubusco and wife of Daryl B. Rapp, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the family residence in Smith Township following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Rapp was born in Wolf Lake on November 28, 1952, a daughter of Richard L. "Dick" and Dorothy (Hyndman) Salesman, and spent her formative years there. She graduated from Churubusco High School in 1971, and graduated from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1974.
On August 9, 1974, she was married in Allen County to Daryl B. Rapp of Churubusco, and moved with her husband to Texas in 1975. She had lived in Katy, Texas, before returning to her Churubusco home recently.
She had worked as a registered nurse, but found her calling as a homemaker and a devoted mother who home schooled her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Katy and its Covenant Sunday School Class. In her leisure time she enjoyed travel, family activities, and caring for horses and other animals.
The surviving relatives include her husband of over 35 years Daryl; her daughter, Sarah Rapp of Houston, Texas; her mother, Dorothy Salesman of Churubusco; two sisters, Diane (Randy) Zolman and Kathi Engle, both of Churubusco; a brother, Greg (Teresa) Salesman of Churubusco; two uncles, Don Hyndman and Dale (Joan) Hyndman, both of Churubusco; an aunt, Barbara Hyndman of Churubusco; and several cousins. Her extended family was a vital part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard "Dick" Salesman, on March 5, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Good News Baptist Church in Churubusco with Pastor Edward A. Thompson, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the family plot at Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

FORT WAYNE -- Robert C. Nicolet, 82, of Clear Lake, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Cameron Hospital.
Born September 14, 1927, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Eli and Alice Nicolet. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont and former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. He was employed by OK Tool & Die, then retired in 1980 after 30 years from Container Corporation.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth of Clear Lake; two daughters, Karen Hughes of Clear Lake and Kaylene (Douglas) Duncan of Churubusco; four grandchildren, Kristen Duncan of Churubusco, Chris (Tracy) Hughes of Fort Wayne, Patrick (Megan) Hughes and Matthew Duncan, both of Indianapolis; and sister, Eleanor Swinehart of Churubusco. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Nicolet.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melson Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road. Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
