In their effort to support community history, Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco has recently expanded their facilities to include a glassed-in display area for an antique horse-drawn hearse. The permanent brick display area is connected to the funeral home on the site of the former Churubusco police station.

The hearse itself was purchased prior to the Civil War by Augustus W. Roberson, an Eel River Township cabinet maker, who also began operating an undertaking establishment in 1858. At the time of its purchase in 1860, Mr. Roberson paid $300 in gold for the vehicle. It was actually purchased second-hand from Fort Wayne undertaker and grocer, Charles Fink, adding years of history to the conveyance.]]> chnews@app-printing.com (Staff Reports) Local Thu, 23 Oct 2014 00:52:32 +0000 Riley Walk/Run http://www.busconews.com/news/local/9821-riley-walkrun.html http://www.busconews.com/news/local/9821-riley-walkrun.html Family and friends gathered in memory of Gabby Jones to participate in the Run For Riley Walk/Run on Sunday, October 12 at Maple Creek Middle School. Allman said that they were Joseph and Patricia Robare from Churubusco, New York. They were heading to Branson, Missouri and wanted to stop in the town that’s name is the same as theirs. There are only two towns named Churubusco in the United States. We’re glad they stopped by. (photo by allman)
