The Churubusco Public Library celebrated 100 years of service to the community with an open house and outdoor concert last Saturday afternoon.

After several months without a head varsity volleyball coach, the Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees voted to appoint Suzanne Taylor to fill the varsity position for the 2014-15 school year.

Taylor, a 2014 Indiana Tech graduate, played on the college's volleyball team for four years and has coached at different club levels. In March of 1924, 19 charter members pledged to work faithfully for God and Churubusco Church of the Nazarene was organized. Property (presently next to the Valero gas station on W. Churubusco High School 2014 graduate Track and Field standout Katie Monk, recently signed with  Indianapolis University to throw disc and shot put.

Monk had an outstanding career over her four years at Busco including five time All-Conference honors, sectional and regional champion her senior year in shot and discus as well as holding school and conference records in disc including the sectional and regional record in disc. The afternoon storm brought rain, hail and winds up to 65 miles per hour. These trees were down on the north shore of Blue Lake and the corner of Whitley and Mulberry streets. A meth lab was discovered after county and state officers and a SWAT team raided the property. A male subject was reportedly arrested after arriving home to the residence. A sign was hung on the front door condemning the house as unfit for human habitation by the Whitley County Board of Health. Another sign from the Indiana State Police stated that they removed a clandestine laboratory manufacturing illegal drugs. (photo by allman)

She will retire on Friday, August 1.

Mrs. Hephner came to the Child Care Center in October 1991. The center had been open just a few months and was looking for good quality teachers. Judy had worked at the Good News Christian School and Day Care prior to coming to the Churubusco Child Care Center. She has been caring for children in this community for over 26 years. Most of her career, Mrs. Hephner has taught 4, 5, and 6-year-olds.
