One Year Ago
Local fifth grader Shaniah Ramsey starred in “Annie” at the Wagon Wheel Theatre.  She played the lead roll of Annie.
Long-time veterinarian Dr. Donald Welsh passed away. His career spanned over 43 years and he was owner and operator of Churubusco Veterinary Hospital for 42 years.
Edward Jones financial services announced the hiring of Abby Lindsey as financial advisor for Albion, Columbia City and Churubusco.
Chris Neusenschwander and Corey Saylor of Churubusco were among the more than 280 drivers entered in “Rumble in Fort Wayne” indoor races at the Coliseum.
Barbara Kreger represented CHS in the annual Good Citizen contest sponsored by Colonel Augustine de la Balme DAR Chapter.
Benjamin and Aimee Rinker announced the birth of their son, Benson Timothy.
Five Years Ago
Busco football moved to Class A. Football was reclassified every two years.  Enrollment figures were submitted to the Indiana Department of Education and used to determine which schools played in each of the five classifications.
The Amber family lost their beloved horse “Dillon.” Dillon was involved in an accident. His leg was badly broken and there was a possibility of internal injuries. Dr. Will Farmer, DVM, confirmed that Dillon was badly injured. Sadly, he was euthanized.
Auditions for Turtletown Players’ production of “Room for One More” were being held. Production was scheduled for early March.
McGregor Furniture was having a “Going Out of Business Sale.”
Ten Years Ago
Nursery school students Alexis Sustek and Brooke Herendeen were the two top sellers in a fundraiser which benefited the United Methodist Nursery School. All of the kids took part and the school received $1,750 for their efforts.
Busco’s I-STEP+  scores faired no better or no worse than the average students across the State. No Whitley County Schools made the list of the local top five or the bottom five.
A boat with three duck hunters capsized in the Elkhart River. Using a boat, Albion Fire Department personnel rescued one hunter from the water. Two were able to get out and receive treatment.  The third was taken to Whitley County Memorial Hospital.
Todd and Carmen Anderson announced the birth of their son, Colton Michael.
Rob and Jodie Coil announced the birth of their daughter, Ashlynn Annette.
Sean and Carrie Barcus announced the birth of their daughter, Samantha Renee.
25 Years Ago
A new snowmobile route opened. Most of the 105 mile route was on dirt roads. The route was a one year trial that could be permanent if the laws were followed.
The Town Hall was filled to overflowing with residents of the area south of town currently under annexation by the Town Board. The board refused to make any decisions and would meet again in January.
C & A Tool was looking to the future. It now employed 45 people and had two partners, Reynard Herron and Rob Marr. They were renovating space in downtown Churubusco.
New radios would be purchased for the Churubusco Fire Department.
Terry Shively was hired as utility clerk.
50 Years Ago
Richard Brumbaugh, fireman, USN, helped recover Enos, the chimpanzee who was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Enos landed 150 miles south of Bermuda and was picked up an hour later by the Stormes, a member of Task Force Alpha.
For the second consecutive month, Indiana farm prices had declined. They dropped two percent from October to November.
Mr. and Mrs. Erman Dirr celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house.
