John and Fran Harris of Fort Wayne will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on February 24. They were married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1962, with Pastor Edwin Nerger presiding. They spent their honeymoon in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Fran, daughter of the late Ernest and Marie Hesterman, graduated from Ridgeville Corners High School (Ohio), and went on to earn a nursing degree from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne in 1958. She was a registered nurse briefly before the birth of their children. John, son of the late Morton and Martha Harris, graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne and served as an MP (PFC) in the U.S. Army from 1962-64. He worked for over 50 years as an automobile mechanic and retired as owner/manager of Mort’s Wayside Garage in 1999. John and Fran have been active members of Our Hope Lutheran Church in Huntertown for over 40 years. In addition to serving their church, they enjoy golfing, vacationing on the beach in Florida and at Indiana lakes, and spending time with family and friends. They have three children: Scott Harris and his wife Lisa, of Churubusco; Kurt Harris and his wife Shelly, of Saint George, Utah; and Becki Rudolph and her husband Chris, of Fort Wayne. They have seven grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Elizabeth, Ian, Blakely, Benjamin, and William.
